Direct Accountability Program

Pre-Charge Diversion:

The Pre-Charge Diversion Program provides a community-based alternative to the formal court process for adults aged 18 and over who are alleged to have committed a minor criminal offence.

The program offers participants an opportunity to take responsibility and address the circumstances surrounding an alleged offence through meaningful, community-based sanctions. This approach supports individuals in making positive choices, developing skills, and moving forward while avoiding the formal court process where appropriate.

The program receives referrals from the Durham Regional Police Service and works with participants in a respectful, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.

Post-Charge Diversion:

The Post-Charge Diversion Program provides a community-based alternative to prosecution for eligible adults aged 18 and over who have been charged with a minor criminal offence.

The program offers individuals an opportunity to take meaningful responsibility for their actions and address the circumstances surrounding the offence through appropriate, community-based measures. By participating in the program, individuals can develop skills, make positive changes, and work toward moving forward without proceeding through the traditional court process, where appropriate.

Referrals are received following screening by the Crown to determine eligibility. Participants are then assessed by a Community Justice Worker to ensure that the program is an appropriate and supportive option for their individual circumstances.

Our approach is respectful, supportive, and non-judgmental, with a focus on accountability, positive change, and helping individuals make meaningful steps toward a more positive future.
