John Howard Society of Simcoe & Muskoka


The John Howard Society Simcoe & Muskoka is a not-for-profit, charitable organization providing a broad range of evidence-based and outcome-driven community services in Simcoe & Muskoka, with offices in Barrie and Orillia. Our organization has a strong history of helping individuals and families who are at risk of, or who have come into conflict with the law. Our work includes the provision of prevention and intervention services as well as advocacy, public education, and community partnerships.

Our diverse client group includes youth and adults, males and females, from a wide cross section of social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds represented in our community.


Now Opened! All About Youth Mental Health Program.

All About Youth mental health is a free, walk-in only mental health program for youth ages 12-24 who are experiencing any mental health challenges. This service is offered in Barrie at 80 Bradford St., Suite 530 Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1pm to 7pm and in Orillia at 17 Colborne St., Suite 109 Thursdays from 1pm to 7pm and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm. This program is made possible with funding from Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Sudbury Shelter Closing – Could be a Big Mistake – CBC Morning North
March 15, 2019 - The new life centre closing in Sudbury means a loss of 22 beds for men needing emergency shelter. The John Howard Society says no city should be without an emergency shelter. He focuses on how inmates who are released from jail often don’t have anywhere to go, so they end up in the shelter until they get back on their feet.
