June 21, 2025 - This service has been provided since the agency’s inception in 1949 and is currently offered when time permits on an ad hoc basis. Available to all members of the community as a preventive program, though generally utilized by former prisoners and/or their families, it allows for staff at JHS to provide their expertise and resources to advocate on a clients’ behalf. Individuals are assisted to meet their immediate needs and to be supported in accessing their rights as community members. This is a non-funded program. June 21, 2025 - This program is an alternative sentencing option directed by the Crown Prosecutor for illegal substance possession charges. This program provides drug abuse awareness and prevention in the form of written materials and self-exploratory exercises. Participants are asked to apply the topics and questions discussed to their own drug use to gain a greater self-awareness of their substance use issues. This is a fee for service program. June 21, 2025 - This program is open to adults in Lambton County who have been sentenced by the Court to perform community service hours. The program strives to provide a safe and considerate environment with proper supervision and motivation to aid clients in completing their sentence requirements. Placement facilities are located throughout the City of Sarnia and Lambton County, including First Nations Territories, and in partnership with numerous community partners who provide both placement opportunities as well as supervision. June 21, 2025 - This program assists males and females in the Sarnia Jail to prepare a workable discharge plan before their release. These plans are rehabilitation focused and include relapse prevention and other forms of community based assistance. Informal needs-based assessments are completed with each client. JHS staff attend the Sarnia Jail weekly for this service. All participation is voluntary. Program funding is provided by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
