September 21, 2025 - This program, in operation since May of 2005, responds to a need identified by the provincial government to reduce the remand population at the local Detention Centre and to increase the court appearance rate. It is open to individuals 16 years of age and older who are facing outstanding charges in the Ottawa Criminal Court with minimal financial or social supports. September 17, 2025 - An Extrajudicial Measure (EJM) is a referral from either the Peterborough Police Services (PPS), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), or First Nations Police Services. Instead of pressing charges, a police officer may offer a young person, aged 12-17, an opportunity to participate in the EJM Program at JHS of the Kawarthas. An Extrajudicial Sanction (EJS) is a referral from the court system, with the approval of the Crown Attorney for a young person, aged 12-17, that have been formally charged with a criminal offence. We work with youth ages 12-17 who have been charged with a criminal offence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (2002).
