Learning Alternatives Program
June 21, 2025 - This program helps adults to develop and apply communication, numeracy, interpersonal and digital skills to achieve their goals. The Learning Alternatives Program serves learners who have a specific path to successfully transition to employment, postsecondary, apprenticeship, secondary school, and increased independence. The Learning Alternatives Program creates individualized learning plans and provides flexible scheduling to support participant’s needs and goals for success. The program runs its own small social enterprise, a snack bar/coffee table within the Oshawa office. Proceeds fund special celebrations, program supplies and class trips. Collective Impact
June 21, 2025 - The Hastings County Youth Collective Impact project is led by the John Howard Society of Belleville and is aimed at improving graduation rates for youth in Hastings County for:
-Youth at risk of not receiving their high school diploma, and
– Youth who have already left school without a diploma. Our project is focused specifically on understanding the needs of three subgroups of youth:
– Youth in Care
– Indigenous Youth

Youth Employment Pathways
June 21, 2025 - JHSB has received an Ontario Labour Market Partnership (OLMP) grant to work with Youth, Employers, and Community Partners to help improve success in employment for barriered youth. The Youth Employment Pathway project fosters collaboration between employers, youth, and service providers at all levels. Through this process, we will:
• Learn from youth what barriers exist to obtaining meaningful employment
• Learn from employers about challenges they face and best practices in hiring, training, and retaining youth

Peer Mentor Program
June 21, 2025 - What makes our program different, but successful is that we use Youth Peer Mentors with lived experience to work with ALL youth around Hasting’s County to help them see the potential in themselves to continue their education using a trauma informed lens. Our Peer Mentors grow up in very similar circumstances that many of the youth we work with experience personally, which allows them to work with the youth in a more personalized way.
