For research to be valid it must be ethical; for research to be ethical it must be valid. The Centre is committed to research that meets all current guidelines for ethical research with human subjects. Our commitment to ethical research also reflects the John Howard’s Society’s tradition of treating all people with dignity and respect.
In all its work, the Centre adheres to established ethical guidelines and standards for research and evaluation purposes; all research and evaluation conforms to the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans, December 2010 (TCPS 2).
In compliance with the TCPS 2, JHSO has established a Research Ethics Board (REB) to review select research projects involving human subjects that are being conducted by the Centre, in order to ensure that such research conforms to ethical standards. The mandate of the REB is to ensure that ethical standards are maintained in every research project under its review. Accordingly, the Centre’s careful adherence to these protocols ensures that all research and evaluation activities are conducted to the highest ethical standards.
