Youth Diversion (Peterborough)

September 17, 2025 -

An Extrajudicial Measure (EJM) is a referral from either the Peterborough Police Services (PPS), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), or First Nations Police Services. Instead of pressing charges, a police officer may offer a young person, aged 12-17, an opportunity to participate in the EJM Program at JHS of the Kawarthas. An Extrajudicial Sanction (EJS) is a referral from the court system, with the approval of the Crown Attorney for a young person, aged 12-17, that have been formally charged with a criminal offence. The EJS Program is a restorative approach to youth justice that provides timely and responsive support to youth before the courts.
