Extrajudicial Measures (EJM)
June 21, 2025 -Measures are imposed on a young person (12 to 17 years old) as a pre-charge with the hope of addressing their issues before they have a criminal record. We work closely with officers from the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Services and the Peterborough County OPP. The young person must take responsibility for their actions which may include: Theft under $5000, mischief, possession of narcotics, shoplifting, and minor assault. The young person is referred to the agency by a police officer, who then meets with one of our youth workers to determine the outcome. Outcomes may include: counseling, attending a workshop (shoplifting, Anger Management), a letter of apology, or other work (project/presentation) related to the crime. We also refer to other agencies as necessary. Funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Youth Justice Branch.
