Direct Accountability Program (DAP)
June 21, 2025 -This program allows adults charged with minor criminal offences in Provincial Court an opportunity to repair harm and address root causes of their crime. Upon successful completion, the charges are withdrawn. Unsuccessful cases go through the normal court process. This program clears court time by diverting those charges with minor offences and by reducing the number of court appearances. All referrals must be approved by the Crown Attorney.
Participants meet with the JHSWW Coordinator to establish a plan of action that will allow the person to be accountable for their actions without appearing before a judge. Examples of suitable plans might be to make a donation to a charity, complete volunteer service hours or attend counselling, treatment or a workshop to gain skills and information that will reduce the likelihood of the person engaging in the behaviour again. Workshops JHSWW provides for the Direct Accountability program are: Substance Use Awareness (Kitchener), Anger Management (Kitchener), Anger & Substance Awareness (Guelph), and Stop Shop Theft (Guelph). Funding is provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General.
