Direct Accountability Program
June 21, 2025 -The direct accountability program is an alternative to prosecution for eligible individuals over the age of 18 who have been charged with minor criminal offences. The program involves accused persons being held accountable through community-based sanctions. Individuals referred to the direct accountability programming options have been assessed as being able to benefit from an opportunity to address the problematic thinking, feelings and behaviour that has led to their involvement with the criminal justice system.
Participants must have been screened by the Crown as eligible to participate in the direct accountability program, and have been assessed as appropriate for one of the program options by the Direct Accountability Worker at the court. This program is funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General.
