Crisis Intervention
June 21, 2025 -In response to a need identified by JHS to provide crisis intervention services for those being released from custody without support, this service, offered daily (8:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday), is open to anyone in the Ottawa area that is in crisis. However, the majority of the clients served have been involved with the criminal justice system and face housing, addiction, and mental health issues. The goals of the program are to respond directly to the client’s presenting need (i.e. food, shelter, transportation, financial, housing, mental health, emotional needs), supporting them through their crisis and then motivating them to address identified core issues through treatment or other interventions on an individual basis. In some cases, bus tickets and taxi chits are issued. Light refreshments are also available and clients are both voluntary and mandated. In addition, condoms are available as are referrals to other community programs or services and advocacy with the Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works when needed. This program is funded by United Way and is renewed annually. It has been running for 8 years and it is anticipated to continue.
