Community Employment Resource Centre
June 21, 2025 -The Community Employment Resource Centre, through the Employment Service program, assists individuals of all ages to access training; prepare for, find and maintain employment; and provides assistance to help employers find and hire qualified employees. The Resource room offers a welcoming environment for individuals providing information, resources and 14 computers available for public use. The Centre provides free employment services and programs to job seekers in the west end of Ottawa.
The Employment Service offers a range of services, tailored to meet individual needs, including: information and resource services, employment planning and preparation, and job search and placement support.
Services for job seekers:
• Individual employment counselling
• Access to subsidized placement
• Career interest assessments
• Interview preparation and job search support
• Résumé development
• Workshops (social media, smart serve, Next Chapter etc.)
• Job Fairs
• Referral to Ministry delivered programs such as Second Career and Job Creation Partnership • Youth Job Link Program geared towards assisting youth between the ages of 15-29 with employment workshops and resource and information support
Available resources:
• Job postings
• State of the art computers with high speed Internet access
• Fax machines and printers
• Telephones
• Business directories, newspapers and journals
• Training opportunities and labour market information
• Apprenticeship, education and career information
• Information on a wide variety of community resources
Employer services:
• Pre-screening and referring candidates for hire
• Posting job openings
• Providing training subsidies for eligible new hires
• Hosting Hiring and Job Fairs
• Subsidies for hiring youth with no work experience all year round
Canada Ontario Job Grant
• Provides an opportunity for employers to invest in skills training for employees
• Improves employee retention and creates opportunities for advancement
• Provides up to $10,000 government support for training, with employers contributing only 0ne-third of the total costs. Additional incentives available for small businesses
Referral source/information for clients to become involved:
• Walk-In service for employment needs – clients can register online for a variety of workshops or call to register
• Outreach services available at our Hire Power Employment Services program at 550 Old St. Patrick Street
