Attendance Centre Program
June 21, 2025 -This program is intended for 12 to 17 year old youth as an alternative to a term of custody. The program focuses on the development of cognitive skills that reinforce positive values and promote responsible behaviour. Youth develop stronger problem solving skills and learn to apply critical reasoning and consequential thinking in their everyday lives. A variety of components are available for the youth to attend. These may include Smart Choices, Substance Awareness, Employment Readiness, Life Management Skills and Surviving School (Study Skills). Youth may be referred directly from the courts or from a Probation Officer. This program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth.
As part of the Attendance Centre program, staff draw upon the Stop Now and Plan (SNAP) Program. SNAP is an e based learning tool available to youth justice staff to assist them in teaching emotion regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. Currently being piloted with males involved in the youth justice system, this 12 module program is a, highly interactive, technology based program to teach youth how to stop and think in the moment” and explore strategies and skills for making positive choices.
