Active Parenting

Provides two different group sessions, one for parents with children aged 5-12, and the other for parents of teens. Sessions are ongoing and run from September to June each year. Each group session is eight weeks long and runs for 2.5 hours. Parents in this program have the opportunity to enhance their parenting skills and learn best practices for establishing effective communication skills, while helping to teach self-reliance and responsibility to their children. Goals include replacing power struggles with cooperative family decisions. Video-based content is included along with the provision of workbooks for each participant. A certificate of completion is provided at the end of the program. Funding is provided by the United Way.
