Pre-Apprenticeship Welding Program

A unique collaborative project between the John Howard Society of Hamilton, Burlington & Area, Elizabeth Fry Society Hamilton Branch, St. Leonard’s Society Hamilton and Mohawk College.
Federally sentenced individuals participate in extensive pre-employment and life skill programming, 14 weeks of pre-apprenticeship welding training and 12 weeks of paid work placement.

Rideau Social Enterprises provides training and livable wages for individuals facing barriers to employment such as; criminal records, clients on probation or parole, those with limited work history, low academic achievement, lack of formal training etc. After a successful debut in Ottawa we have recently launched the program here at our new Hamilton location. Training is provided free of charge and participants will be made available to local employers via a temp agency model of delivery. Individuals must be able to perform heavy, manual labour while wearing breathing protection.
Interested participants should be between the ages of 18 and 30, not currently enrolled in school and not planning on returning to school.
