The JHS Hamilton team will be hosting Father’s Day bake sales on JUne 18 and 19 to benefit our agency campaign for the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton.

Did you know the United Way was our very first funder in 1949??

Here’s a recipe that will be featured at the bake sale tomorrow. We love these Mars bar squares because they are good for people with nut allergies (but always be sure to double check the ingredients you are using to be sure!!)

JHS Hamilton (almost) World Famous Mars Bar Squares

Ingredients:

Bars:

4 Mars bars (50 g each)

1/2 cup butter or margarine

4 cups Rice Krispies

Topping:

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup butter or margarine

Method:

Bars:

Melt Mars bars and butter / margarine in a large saucepan on low heat, stirring constantly until melted.  Remove from heat once melted and stir in Rice Krispies. Pack into greased 9×9 pan.

Topping:

Melt chocolate chips and butter / margarine in a small saucepan, stirring often until smooth. Spread evenly over bar mixture in pan. Let cool. Cut into squares.

If you try these and enjoy them, let us know on Twitter @jhshamilton

Our agency had nominated Garth Bell for the prestigious John C. Holland Award in the Business/ Professional category. On Saturday evening as part of Black History Month their was a celebration for those nominated and I am very pleased to inform you that Garth  was the winner for the Business/Professional Award. Garth’s outstanding work with at risk youth in our community over many years  was recognized ……it was also acknowledged that Garth has been a trail blazer in the practise and teaching of Restorative Justice in our community. This is the first time in the 19 year history of these awards that a staff from our agency had been nominated for an Award ..never mind winning the Award. Garth’s mother, daughter and girlfriend  along with members of our staff team were present to watch Garth be recognized .  it was a very proud moment for all of us!
